Call for Papers

 

The Nigerian Journal of Public Administration and Local Government  (NJPALG) is a peer-reviewed open access journal published by the Department of  Public Administration and Local Government, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.  The journal is a bi-annual publication, which aims to advance both theoretical and  empirical research in all aspects of public management and social sciences. This  call invites author(s) to submit original research and critical reviews on issues  relating to public administration, local government, politics, and social sciences  in general in developing and advanced economies. Intending authors should  submit their manuscript (MS-Word format only) to the editor  at: editor.njpalg@unn.edu.ng and copy to: okey.ikeanyibe@unn.edu.ng 

Format for Manuscript Submission 

Manuscripts are received on the understanding that they have not been published previously or are being considered for publication in any other journal. They should be written in English using  British spellings only. Article should not exceed 20 pages prepared and submitted on MS-Word  font size 12, Times New Roman and double line spaced in A4 sized paper (efforts should be made  to submit using later versions of word). This should be accompanied with an abstract not  exceeding 200 hundred words and five key words. The title of the paper, the author(s) names and  affiliation, as well as the abstract should be on the first page of the article, which serves as a  detachable cover.  

The title and the abstract should be repeated on the second page with the introduction. Figures,  tables or diagrams should be embedded in the text where they ought to appear and are not  expected to be saved separately from the manuscript. Authors are required to use the 7th edition of  APA style of referencing for manuscript formatting and documentation purposes. The Editors  will not undertake retyping, reformatting or excessive English Language editing of manuscripts  before publication.  

Manuscripts undergo blind reviews by seasoned academics to decide on the quality, originality,  and relevance for the journal. Authors are therefore required to remove any information relating  to their identity starting from the second page of the manuscript. Authors are required to pay the  sum of 10,000 Naira only for the processing and review of their articles. On acceptance,  additional 20,000 Naira article processing charge (APC) will be paid.

The Department of Public Administration and Local Government, University of Nigeria, Nsukka started as a centre created by the Federal Government for the training of low and middle level manpower for the third tier of government – the Local government, in 1979. The programme saw to the emergence of highly professionalized career officials at the Local Government level. The catchment States covered by the Department are Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Benue, Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Kogi Imo and Rivers.
Now a full-fledged Department, it offers the following programmes:
1) Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Public Administration and Local Government.
2) Bachelor of Science Degree in Local Government Studies (B.Sc);
3) Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Administration Studies (B.Sc);
4) Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration and Local government (PGD);
5) Master Degree in Public Administration (MPA);
6) Master of Science Degree in Public Administration (M.Sc);
7) Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) and
8) Doctor of Philosophy in Public Administration (Ph.D).
Our undergraduate programmes are designed to produce world-class graduates who can favourably compete with their counterparts all over the world. Through the courses, researches and teachings that make up these programmes, students acquaint themselves with knowledge and skills in Public Sector Management, Public Policy, the Management of Public Finance, Public Programmes/Projects, Human Resource Management, Development Administration etc.
The Masters and Doctorate programmes in the Department are fashioned to help meet the challenges of shaping and delivering effective public services in a climate of continuous change, as well as equipping one with skills and understanding needed to operate effectively in an increasingly competitive environment.

Very regularly, the Department is engaged in high profile training workshops and retreats for different cadres of Local Government Staff, Public Servants, Political Office Holders, Civil Servants and Key Officers in the Private Sector.
